Healing Tallow First Aid Soap

Intention: Soap for skin rashes

After being asked for soaps to help with Poison Ivy and other skin rashes, we decided that a 100% tallow-based soap with the same skin healing herbs that are in our First Aid Salve might just do the trick! With a bit of exfoliating properties included, our Healing Tallow First Aid  Soap will help satisfy the need to itch while providing soothing relief.

Ingredients: Tallow, Water, Sodium Hydroxide (lye), Oil blend (Olive, Jojoba, St. Vitamin E), herb blend (Burdock Root, Calendula, Yarrow, Chickweed, Comfrey Root & Leaf, Red Raspberry Leaf, Self Heal/Heal-All, Plantain, and Sage)

Why We Chose These Ingredients:

• Tallow - traditional fat used in soap making that is rendered from healthy pasture-raised cows from rural WNY; high oleic, palmitic and stearic acids; is very similar to our skin sebum/fat
• Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) - a caustic/alkaline reagent that, when mixed with fats and water,  will react (saponify) to create soap. Once cured, a properly made bar of soap will have no lye left in it when finished: it has been converted into soap.
• Olive Oil - Vitamins A, D, K & E, moisturizing, anti-oxidants
• Jojoba Oil - liquid wax that is similar to our skin sebum, softens and smooths dry skin, regulates oily skin

• Burdock Root - helps to stabilize mast cels to reduce allergic reactions,  soothing for rashes and burns
• Calendula - anti-inflammatory, astringent, anti-microbial, anti-fungal
• Yarrow - anti-microbial, anti-viral, helps to slow bleeding of wounds
• Chickweed - soothing for itchy skin, demulcent
• Comfrey Root and Leaf - a rapid healer, stimulates cell growth 
• Red Raspberry Leaf - antiseptic, astringent
• Heal-All (aka Self-Heal) - astringent, styptic, healing to wounds
• Beeswax - healing to skin and helps to solidify the salve
• Plantain - herb that helps to draw out toxins, cooling, purifies the skin
• Sage - helps to safely dissolve blood clots
• Vitamin E - fat-soluble vitamin, antioxidants, helps create barrier to keep skin moisture in, helps to preserve product
  

Use: Use as daily soap or for washing and soothing rashes like poison ivy.  Due to this bar being 100% tallow based, it does not have a sudsy lather. But it does feel nice!
